Historical Homemaking
Historical homemaking honors the domestic skills, tools, and wisdom of those who came before us— these crafts and rhythms sustained homes for generations. But it’s more than that; for me, it’s about teaching myself an old-fashioned skill so that I may better understand the modern version in new and unique ways. Teaching myself traditional skills has inspired me in too many ways to count, and there is something grounding about grinding grains, rendering fat, or fermenting that you can’t get from convenient homemaking.
Here, I will share my favorite traditional skills that I have learned and started to master. These are not skills meant to replace modern conveniences, but more so to enjoy yourself in the process!
